MBRS hosts Miles Bronson Memorial Eastern India Quizzes and World Book Day Creative Writing Conclave

The Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS) Guwahati hosted the 1st Miles Bronson Memorial Eastern India Quizzes and World Book Day Creative Writing Conclave on 23rd April 2025 Wednesday in its campus at the AnuChandra Auditorium and Multi-sports Complex.

This was organized in the fond memory of the Philanthropist, linguist and lexicographer Miles Bronson (1812-1883) who heralded a renaissance in Assamese language and literature.

In the inaugural address Founder and Principal Dr. Nripen Kumar Dutta gave his insight on the contribution of Miles Bronson towards in his significant role and reinstatement of Assamese Language as the language of courts as well as a medium of education on 25th July 1873 after a long struggle of 73 years. It was after the Treaty of Yandabo in 1836 the imposition of Bengali as the language of courts and schools in Assam the Assamese language had its darkest period. He explained how the naming of the school after his great linguist of par excellence has been always a constant source of inspiration for the school and its community. Quiz Master Mr. Pranab Mukherjee the eminent quiz master in his address also highlighted the contribution of Miles Bronson towards Assam and the tribes of Singpho, Noctes and Wanchos.

All together 17 numbers of schools participated in this event. Outstation teams were Birla Divya Jyoti, Zone F, Uttarayon, Matigara, Siliguri and Sunbeam School Mughalsarai.

The quiz was conducted in three categories – General; Sports, Literature, Art and Music (SLAM) and Creative Writing Competition. The winners in General Quiz are – Champion Team – Gurukul Grammar Senior Secondary School, Guwahati – Sagnik Roychoudhury, Class X and Madhurjya Deka, Class X; 1st Runners Up – Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri -Dhrubarka Ranjan Sarma, Class IX and Nibir Nilay Baishya, Class IX; 2nd Runners up – Army Public School, Narengi, Satvik Kumar Ranjan, Class X and Ayush Kumar Thakur, Class X; Best Quizzard – Nibir Nilay Baishya, Maharishi Vidya mandir, Silpukhuri and Most Promising Quizzard – Anushka Borthakur (Class IX), Delhi Public School, Guwahati. In the Sport, Literary, Art and Music (SLAM) Quiz -Champion Team – South Point School, Guwahati – Mriganka Saha, Class X and Arohan Das, Class VIII; 1st Runners Up – Sunbeam School, Mughalsarai – Pranshu Pulak, Class XII and Sanat Kumar, Class X; 2nd Runners up – Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Silpukhuri – Dhritiraj Sharma, Class X and Devank Bani Kashyap, Class X; Best Quizzard – Dhritiraj Sharma (Class, Maharishi Vidya mandir, Silpukhuri and Most Promising Quizzard – Mriganka Saha (Class X), South Point School, Guwahati and in the Creative Writing Competition the Champion Team was Birla Divya Jyoti School, Siliguri – Diksha Chhetri, Class X and Palsang Tamang, Class X; 1st Runners Up: St. Claret School Borjhar – Suhani Sawdagar, Class XII and Gayatri Nath, Class XII; 2nd Runners up – Miles Bronson Residential School Borjhar – Harchal Bharali, Class X and Titiksha Hazarika, Class VIII; 2nd Runners up: Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Amingaon – Rumana Ganguly, Class X and Paridhi Sarma, Class IX; Best Critic’s Choice – Saanvi Sharma (Class X) Sunbeam School, Mughalsarai and Most Promising Creative Writer – Nikita Sharma (Class X), Modern English School Kahilipara, Guwahati. The prizes were given away by the Founder & Principal Dr. Nripen Kumar Dutta and the Quiz Master Mr. Pranab Mukherjee in a glittering closing ceremony.
