MBRS Hosts AFS Cultural Interaction Programme Showcasing Regional Festive Traditions and Global Citizenship 2026
Miles Bronson Residential School, in collaboration with AFS Intercultural Programs, successfully hosted the AFS Cultural Interaction Programme on 22nd May 2026. The event brought together students, educators, and guests from various schools across the region for a vibrant celebration of culture, learning, and global citizenship.
The programme was organized as a special celebration of Bihu, Assam’s most cherished festival, providing participants with an opportunity to experience the state’s rich cultural heritage while fostering intercultural understanding and meaningful connections among young people. Through a blend of traditional performances and interactive engagement, the event highlighted the importance of appreciating local traditions within a global context.
The celebrations commenced with a welcome song and ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by an inspiring address by Founder & Principal Dr. Nripen Kumar Dutta. In his remarks, he emphasized the role of cultural exchange in promoting mutual respect, broadening perspectives, and preparing students to thrive as responsible global citizens.
A major highlight of the programme was the cultural showcase presented by the students of Miles Bronson Residential School. Through an energetic and captivating Bihu dance performance, the students offered participants an authentic glimpse into the spirit of the festival. The performance beautifully reflected the vibrancy, traditions, music, and community spirit associated with Bihu and was warmly appreciated by all in attendance.
The programme also included the felicitation of guests and opportunities for students and educators to interact, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. These interactions encouraged participants to develop a deeper understanding of diverse cultures while strengthening friendships and connections across schools.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from several schools, including Faculty Higher Secondary School, Amingaon; Maria’s Public School, Birkuchi; and Royal Global School, Betkuchi. Their presence enriched the programme and contributed to the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange that defined the occasion.
Adding an international dimension to the event, the programme was livestreamed and attended virtually by distinguished members of the AFS community from different locations around the world. Their participation reinforced the values of international friendship, intercultural learning, and global engagement that lie at the heart of the AFS mission.
The AFS Cultural Interaction Programme served as a meaningful platform for celebrating the festival of Bihu while promoting the values of inclusivity, respect, and global understanding. By bringing together regional cultural traditions and international perspectives, the event demonstrated how local heritage can become a powerful bridge for fostering intercultural dialogue and global citizenship.
Miles Bronson Residential School extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participating schools, students, teachers, coordinators, and members of the AFS community whose enthusiastic involvement contributed to the success of the programme. The event stands as a testament to the shared commitment of all participants towards cultural appreciation, international understanding, and lifelong learning.
